For instance, one will be using his company name as anchor text which is good as per branding purposes. But it doesn't seem to provide any information on company's product or services and here begins the problem. The business will start losing important SEO points in front of other competitors because buyers will be keener searching for results with products and services in their keyword phrase. Also, the fact that we are more focused at optimizing for keywords related to product or services dilutes the importance of having the brand name in the anchor tag.
Also, when we talk about the positions for placing anchor text different people have different views about it. Some say it's good to have anchor text in the H1 tag, for some it's the title and few others prefer to have it in the first line of their document. To conclude, all the mentioned positions are good as long as the text is relevant to the target page and self-explanatory.
